Divemaster/Mate
Duties and Responsibilities
The Divemaster shall be responsible for:
Ensuring that all diving operations are conducted safely in accordance with prescribed governing Diving Safety Rules and diving regulations (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.).
Ensuring that all divers are certified to perform the dive and that the Diver Profile sheet has been completed and or updated for each dive.
Ensuring that all divers complete Boat/Diver release of Liability form.
Ensuring that
emergency procedures are in place and understood by all divers before diving.
Ensuring that all divers are monitored after each dive for symptoms of
decompression sickness.
Ensure that the “Over-the-Side” dive slate is current for each diver’s time in
and out of water.
Reporting immediately all diving-related accidents which occur during the days
dive utilizing PADI’s Incident Report Form 10120, copies will go to Pelican DC
and Dive Quarter’s within seven (7) days.
Divemaster will provide copies of proof of DM certification, Up-to-date First aid, CPR, and Liability insurance.
Divemaster will provide their own gear for the execution of his duties.
Divemaster
will be required to dive independently of other divers in uncertain conditions.
PDC recommends that each Divemaster utilize a redundant air source (pony
bottle) while diving independently.
Divemaster Duties are, but not limited too:
The Divemaster will communicate with the boat Captain within 48 hours of trip departure to establish trip itinerary and special instructions.
DM will be accountable for meeting the Boat Captain at the boat launch ramp to assist with boat launching and recovery. MUST BE ON TIME.
DM will assist with boat set-up and preparation.
DM will greet divers and assist with gear on-load and off load.
DM will insure proper gear storage and securing.
DM will insure diver’s have appropriate certification.
DM will insure Release of Liability and Diver Profile sheet is completed.
DM will give the dive brief.
DM will assist with the lines and anchoring as needed.
